Admiral Angry - Buster (2009)
It blows my mind that this album turns 15 years old this month. This honestly might be the most painful sounding record I’ve ever heard. The amount of pure emotion that went into this project is STAGGERING. And wow, does it translate.
Their guitars are so down-tuned they might as well have been playing basses. Their vocalist sounds like he’s about to cough up blood at the end of every song. I can’t think of a record that sounds as physically punishing as this one, but it still maintains this intangible groove from song to song that never becomes tiring. What a record. RIP Daniel Krauss.

Porcelain - Porcelain (2024)
This is probably my favorite release from the first half of 2024. Within the past two years this Austin-based post-hardcore band has made some serious noise, both musically and with the warm reception they’ve drummed up.
This new record is an enigma, feeling both comfortably familiar and totally fresh all at once. The pacing is phenomenal, every song feeds into the next in a way that just makes perfect sense. It feels like a complete mesh of the best parts of every Unwound project all in one album.

The punch-you-in-the-mouth cut “Vanity” or sprawling track “History” are the standouts here, but frankly this is the kind of album where you pick up on something new every time you listen to it, whether is be an incredibly catchy bassline or a killer drum fill, this album just gets more exciting every time you listen to it.
Also, they’re an incredibly killer live act. If you get the chance to check them out, you 100% won’t regret it. I haven’t had a live show leave me quite as speechless since I saw Sprain (RIP).
